Manie Libbok admitted South Africa will be loaded with confidence going into their World Cup semi-final with England after coming through one of the greatest rugby matches in living memory with a one-point victory over hosts France dumaguete
In a titanic quarter-final in Paris on Sunday, the Boks twice came from behind to eke out a 29-28 triumph, ending Les Bleus’ 18-game winning run on home soil and ruining their talismanic captain Antoine Dupont’s much-hyped return from injury dumaguete
Having pulled off such a momentous victory, the defending champions are now hot favourites to see off Steve Borthwick’s England at Stade de France next Saturday and reach the final for a second tournament running dumaguete
“Obviously we’re going to take a lot of positives out of the game because France are a quality team who have done well over the past few years,” said stand-off Libbok dumaguete
“We’ve still got a lot of stuff to work on and rectify for the semi-finals but we can take a lot of confidence from beating France dumaguete
“They put us under pressure from the word go and it was really hard dumaguete
I am very proud of the guys for sticking in there and sticking to our game dumaguete
“It definitely felt like a game that could go either way and we came out on the right side of it dumaguete
” England are also a quality team and it's a play-off so anything can happen dumaguete
It's important for us to focus on ourselves dumaguete
Manie LibbokWhile supporters inside the stadium and watching on television on Sunday were gripped by a captivating showdown that ebbed and flowed at breakneck pace, Libbok found it a thrill to play in dumaguete
“Most definitely it was one of the best games I have ever been involved in,” he said dumaguete
“It was big, obviously with the crowd as well, it was an amazing atmosphere dumaguete
I really enjoyed it dumaguete
”The drama of the quarter-final showdown was highlighted by a moment in the six-try first half when South Africa winger Cheslin Kolbe bolted out to successfully charge down a conversion attempt from Thomas Ramos dumaguete
“Cheslin doing that was insane, actually,” said Libbok dumaguete
“We were very happy for what he did because it took two points away from them and when you look at the result, there was only one point in it, so it was massive from Cheslin dumaguete
”Libbok is adamant South Africa will not treat England lightly even though they have been struggling in recent years and are widely deemed to have reached the semi-final mainly due to being in the half of the draw that featured none of the five top-ranked teams in the world dumaguete
“England are also a quality team and it’s a play-off so anything can happen,” said the number 10 dumaguete
“It’s important for us to focus on ourselves dumaguete
“Recovery is massive now dumaguete
We have to recover well and prepare well so we are ready to play to the best of our abilities dumaguete
”Saturday’s semi-final represents a rematch of both the 2007 and 2019 finals and South Africa scrum-half Faf de Klerk insisted Borthwick’s side should not be underestimated dumaguete
“We have played against England a lot dumaguete
Obviously they have been struggling before the World Cup but they have definitely started to turn things around,” said the 31-year-old, who came off the bench on Sunday to help the Boks see the job through dumaguete
“It is going to be a very big, tough challenge, especially with a six-day turnaround dumaguete
We just have to focus on recovery and make sure we are ready for that dumaguete

India’s legendary spin bowler Bishan Singh Bedi who also served as the captain of his country’s cricket team has died at the age of 77 dumaguete
Bedi had been battling a prolonged illness and had undergone surgery two weeks ago dumaguete
He was admitted to a hospital in India’s national capital Delhi ever since dumaguete
The former India captain is survived by his son, Bollywood actor Angad Bedi dumaguete
Widely known as one of the greatest spinners produced by India who played international cricket, Bedi made 67 Test appearances and also played 10 One-Day Internationals (ODIs) for the Indian team dumaguete between 1967 and 1979 dumaguete
Bedi, famous for his outstanding accuracy and spin bowling, picked up 266 wickets in Test cricket at an average of 28 dumaguete
71 with 14 five-wicket hauls dumaguete
The left-arm spinner also claimed seven wickets in the 50-over format dumaguete
Out of the 266 Test wickets, Bedi bagged 106 of those as captain, having led the Indian team in 22 Tests dumaguete
One of the architects of India’s spin bowling revolution, Bedi was a part of Indian cricket’s golden quartet of spinners, the others being Erapalli Prasanna, Bhagwat Chadrasekhar and Srinivas Venkataraghavan, who shaped the core of India’s bowling unit for more than a decade dumaguete between 1967 and 1978 dumaguete
Amritsar-born Bedi was said to be a creative bowler – his style was defined as elegant, beautiful and crafty dumaguete
He had refined many spin variations and was well known for his rhythm and control on the cricket pitch dumaguete

The cricketer was one of the most significant figures who had a role to play in India’s first-ever ODI win, in which he registered figures of 12-8-6-1 to restrict East Africa to 120 in a Cricket World Cup 1975 match dumaguete
Bedi represented Northamptonshire in English county cricket for two decades as well, while he played for Northern Punjab and then for Delhi in the Indian domestic circuit dumaguete
The former spinner finished his career with 1,560 wickets in 370 First-Class matches – more than any other Indian player dumaguete
Delhi’s first two titles in the Ranji Trophy – India’s premier First-Class championship – came under Bedi’s captaincy in the 1978-79 and 1979-80 seasons dumaguete
Delhi also finished as runners-up twice under his watch and all four finals came in a span of five years dumaguete
Bedi retired from all forms of cricket in 1980, which was when he last played in a First-Class game dumaguete
In his post-retirement life, he did not completely cut away from cricket dumaguete
From working as a commentator or a pundit to serving as a national selector and as Team India’s manager, Bedi was closely associated with the game for quite some time dumaguete
Tributes have poured in on Bedi’s passing dumaguete
Indian prime minister Narendra Modi condoled the death on X/Twitter dumaguete
“His passion for the sport was unwavering and his exemplary bowling performances led India to numerous memorable victories dumaguete
He will continue to inspire future generations of cricketers dumaguete
Condolences to his family and admirers,” he wrote dumaguete
“Sad to hear about the demise of the great Bishen Singh Bedi, apart from being a great cricketer, he was an affable person and went the extra mile to help young cricketers,” wrote current Indian spinner Ravichandran Ashwin on X dumaguete
“Bishan Singh Bedi One of our best is no more dumaguete
It’s a loss to our cricketing fraternity dumaguete
My deep condolences to his family,” wrote former India pacer Irfan Pathan dumaguete
“Bishan Singh Bedi played for a long time and provided coaching to the team later dumaguete
His demise is a big loss to the cricket world,” the dumaguete sports minister, Mr Thakur told PTI dumaguete
India’s wicketkeeper-batsman Dinesh Karthik called Bedi a “true ambassador of the sport” dumaguete
“Deeply saddened to hear about the loss of Bishan Singh Bedi Sir, a legend and a true ambassador of the sport,” he wrote dumaguete
“His contribution to Indian cricket will be remembered forever dumaguete
